Dewhurst Sylko Cotton Perle Treasure

Hello

Yesterday there was a knock on the door, Carol a neighbour with an old box in her hands.

She has been having a clear out and seeing I was the only person she knew who was "crafty", would I like her mum's box of threads?  A big thanks to Carol, I was thrilled. They will be good for hand quilting when I need a bit thicker thread.

Another box inside, these are such lovely bright colours.

Still on the Sylko theme, my partner gave me a  dark green Sylko Pin Pot which matches the one I bought at the vintage fair recently.

So a Sylko Day, Yeah!

Vulcan Junior Child's Sewing Machine & Sylko Pin Pot

Hello

We went to a great Vintage Fair held at Thirsk Auction Mart yesterday.  We took Burt our collie with us, he had a super day saying hello to as many people and dogs as he could.  His new nickname is "Burt the Flirt".

I spotted this little sewing machine, my sister Sandi wants to teach her grandchildren how to sew so this will ideal for a first machine.  It came with its original box.

Gave a quick clean and polish then tested it out this morning, it works OK without any tinkering.  To keep it stable its got its own clamp.

The instruction booklet is a bit tatty but its all there.

It tells the new owner to treat it properly!  Bet today's toys don't have instructions like that.

Its a 1950's machine and is a chainstitch machine.  It uses 206 x 13 Singer needles which are now getting a bit rarer but you can still find them thank goodness.  They are shorter than the more common 15x1 that all my Singer machines use.

My treat was finding at Sylko Pin Pot in the shape of a cotton reel.  Been after one of these for ages but they are expensive on Ebay.  This is the smaller size one.

Cheers
